On the Spur of the Dhauladhar Range one finds the gorgeous and beautiful town of Dharamshala. The word Dharamshala means a shelter attached to a temple. It is very popular amongst tourists, for its beautiful sites like McLeod Ganj, Bhagsu Falls, Dal Lake, Namgyal Monastery, Triund, Tsuglagkhang Monastery, Naddi Village and Kareri Lake. Mcleodganj is famous for Tsuglakhang Complex- the house of the spiritual leader Dalai Lama, and the headquarters of Central Tibetan Administration. The hill station town of Dharamshala offers its tourists mixture of Tibetan and Indian culture. Besides, Dharamsala offers a great haven for adventure lovers. Famous treks to Triund, Ilaka Glacier and Kareri Lake if doesn't fufill your apetite, Paragliding at Indrunag surely will. Its also one of the base for Mountain Bikers.

Though often sidelined by the charms of Manali, Shimla and Dalhouise; it's a destination not to be missed.

How to Reach:

Air: The nearest airport to Dharamshala is at Gaggal (Kangra Airport), (15 km from Dharamshala)
Rail: The nearest railhead is in Pathankot (83km from Dharamshala), which is well connected to various parts of the country. One can easily get taxi or bus from Pathankot.
Road: Dharamshala is well connected to Delhi (479 km from Dharamshala) and Pathankot (83km from Dharamshala via NH20)

War Memorial

War memorial in Dharamshala is situated near to the International Cricket stadium and Dharamshala degree College.Memorial is placed in a perfect place of peace, amidst the lush green pine trees to pay tribute to Great War heroes from Himachal Pradesh in the Post-Independence Era.It is one of the most famous tourist attractions of Dharamshala situated near the entry of the City.


McLeod Ganj (also spelt McLeodGanj or Mcleodganj) is a suburb of Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It has an average elevation of 2,082 metres (6,831 feet). Situated on the Dhauladhar Range, whose highest peak, Hanuman Ka Tibba, at about 5,639 metres (18,500 feet), lies just behind it, it is known as Little Lhasa or Dhasa (a short form of Dharamshala used mainly by Tibetans) because of its large population of Tibetan refugees.The Tibetan government-in-exile is headquartered in McLeod Ganj. Tourism is an important industry in McLeod Ganj, but many people come here to study Tibetan Buddhism, culture, crafts, etc. The town is also known for Tibetan handicrafts, thangkas, Tibetan carpets, garments and other souvenirs.

Saint John Church

St. John Church is an Anglican church located in the forest near ForsythGanj. The neo-Gothic stone building of the church was constructed in 1852. The site also has a memorial of the British Viceroy Lord Elgin, and an old graveyard. The church building is also noted for its Belgian stained-glass windows donated by Lady Elgin.

Kangra art Gallery

Kangra art museum is situated near bus stand, at Kotwalti Bazaar and it has an old throne of Raja Sansar Chand.It was inaugrated in 1990.One Can find many items related to Kangra art.It contains crafts,artifacts and sculptures all representing Kangra art.It also contains the artifacts of the Tibetian and Buddhist culture.It also contains collection of Kangra's rich past,coins,paintings,pottry and sculptures.

The Naam Art Gallery

The Naam Art Gallery is located at Sidhbari. The permanent exhibition in Naam Art Gallery shows paintings by Elsbeth Buschmann - water colours and acrylics - and oil paintings by Alfred W Hallett. The gallery remains open from 10 am to 7 pm on all days except Monday.Elsbeth Buschmann is a professional painter from Germany living in Dharamshala. Alfred Hallett was a very well known painter from England. He lived over 40 years in Dharamshala and became very popular in Himachal Pradesh. Many of his paintings are owned by the government of Himachal Pradesh. AW Hallett had a great love for, and a special interest in, the culture and scenery of Himachal Pradesh, which are among the main elements of his work. He died in Dharamshala in 1986. The display of his paintings in Naam Art Gallery is a tribute to him.
